Agartala, 24th March 2025:  All the eight districts of the state is going to have Deputy Director Prosecution Cell and for that 70 posts have been created, Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha said while replying to queries of Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy today.

Dr Saha said “According to the data of 2024, the percentage of punishment in Criminal Cases in the state is 29.80%. At present, the government has no plan to form Special Prosecution Cell in every police station under Home Department. To increase the punishment rate in criminal cases in the state, continuous monitoring is being maintained on the cases pending in the courts with the help of PAIRVI officers and police courts.”

In a supplementary query, MLA Roy said “According to the data of National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), disposal of civil cases stands at 60.8 percent. In the Supreme Court, 3,463 civil cases and 1,090 criminal cases were disposed out of 55,453 cases.” He asked the minister in-charge of the Home department whether the percentage of punishment in criminal cases would be increased or not as incidents of rape, murder, assault, etc are increasing day by day.

“At a programme on January 16, CM Dr Saha said that modernization is under process in all the police stations. And, in reality, a special desk with chair and table has been set up for namesake. In the field, it is seen that ‘Bahubali’ kinds of people are increasing day by day,” said Roy and asked whether the crime rate will decline or not?

In reply to the queries, CM Dr Saha stated, “In the last three years, several cases of dacoity, robbery, dowry, molestation, assault, attack, violence, miscellaneous have been reported to the police stations and cases were filed accordingly. In 2022, 4,532 cases filed, 5002 in 2023 and 4033 in 2024. Recently, I have attended a meeting chaired by union Home minister Amit Shah at Guwahati where three criminal laws- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) were discussed. Prosecution has to be strengthened further.”
