Agartala, April 09: Despite recording the highest temperature of 37 degree Celsius, the most popular “Chaitra Mela” witnessed an immense gathering since Sunday morning at Shakuntala road and Jackson Gate areas of the Agartala city. The mela had begun from April 04 last.
As the government offices and institutions were remained closed on the second Saturday, the crowd increased from morning till night in “Chaitra Bazar” and Sunday was no exception.
The shopping spree started in the morning with record crowds. The market was over crowded. Everyone has the same idea that in this “Chaitra Mela” at the end of the year, the price of goods will be discounted to some extent. However, for less profit, the small traders are sitting in the crowded Chaitra market with a smile.
Meanwhile, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder and Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta were seen arriving at the “Chaitra Mela” with sweets and drinking water this morning. He satisfied the thirst of traders by handing them sweets and drinking water. He also interacted to them and became aware of those issues. He visited the entire “Chaitra Bazar”.
Mayor Majumdar said after visiting the “Chaitra Mela”, they have inquired whether they have any problems from the angry traders. They said they are doing business fairly and peacefully.
Mayor said, this “Chaitra Mela” is the tradition of Agartala city. Like every year, “Chaitra Mela” is going well this year also. Buyers are gathering at the fair. There is no complaint of toll collection. This year, 538 businessmen got placement while many did not get a place. Therefore, due to the collection of places, the Agartala Municipal Council will decide a place next year so that everyone can participate in the “Chaitra Mela” comfortably. As Sunday was a holiday, there was no room for the record crowd to enter the “Chaitra Mela”. It is known that many buyers from outside the city of Agartala came to “Chaitra Mela” on this day to purchase their requirements, he added.
