Agartala, 25th February 2025: The highly anticipated second Saras Mela of Dhalai district is set to commence on February 27, 2025. The four-day extravaganza will be held at the Chandrai Para Class XII School grounds in Ambassa and will run from 3 PM to 9 PM each day concluding on March 2nd.
The event is being organized by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) in conjunction with the District Mission Management Unit Dhalai. According to sources, the budget for this year’s Saras Mela is estimated to be around Rs 15 lakh.
The venue is currently being transformed into a vibrant fairground, with forty stalls set to be established. These stalls will showcase a variety of products crafted by local women from self-help groups, as well as exhibits from various government departments. Speaking about the preparations, an official stated, “We are working tirelessly to ensure everything is ready for the opening day. The Saras Mela is a significant event for our community, and we want to make it a memorable experience for all.”
In addition to the stalls, the Mela will feature several competitions designed to engage and entertain attendees. Activities include cultural programs, an alpana drawing competition, and various food preparation contests. “These competitions are a wonderful opportunity for the women of our self-help groups to showcase their talents,” said an organizer. “We have also planned an array of cultural performances by local and out-of-state artists to add to the festive atmosphere.”
The fair will be inaugurated by the Tribal Welfare minister Bikash Debbarma. His presence is expected to draw significant attention and enthusiasm from the public. “Minister Debbarma’s involvement underscores the importance of the Saras Mela in promoting rural livelihoods and community spirit,” noted an official.
The Additional District Magistrate and TRLM officials have been closely monitoring the preparations. During a recent site inspection, they expressed their satisfaction with the progress. “We are confident that the fair will attract a large number of visitors. It’s an excellent platform to promote the work of our self-help groups and to raise awareness about various developmental initiatives,” remarked an official.
