Agartala, 25th February 2025:   The Deputy CEO of Melaghar Municipal Council and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Melaghar Police Station along with a large force of TSR personnel recovered Rs 31,580 and various tools of theft from the residence of two notorious thieves Mithun Nama and Ranjit Das.

For a long time, the residents of Melaghar Bazar and its surrounding areas had been plagued by frequent thefts, rendering them increasingly despondent. Each night brought reports of stolen goods, and while the police had some success in operations, they struggled to arrest the mastermind behind the burglaries.

On the night of the February 19, Mithun Nama and Ranjit Das broke into the traditional Ramthakur Seva Temple in Melaghar, breaking the lock and stealing cash and various tools. However, the presence of CCTV cameras at the temple proved to be their undoing. The police of Melaghar Police Station swiftly analyzed the CCTV footage, identified the culprits, and arrested Mithun Nama and Ranjit Das from their hideout near Poangbari High School, Melaghar.

The authorities of Ram Thakur Seva Mandir immediately filed a case at the Melaghar Police Station. In response, OC Debasish Saha and Deputy CEO Animesh Debnath along with two government employees, conducted a thorough search of the thieves’ residence. They recovered thirty-one thousand five hundred and eighty taka, along with various stolen tools hidden inside a jacket.

OC Saha stated, “The recovery of stolen goods and the arrest of these individuals is a significant step towards restoring peace and security in Melaghar. We are committed to continuing our efforts to eradicate theft in the area.”

Deputy CEO Debnath added, “We urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The cooperation of the public is crucial in our fight against crime.”

Following the arrest of Mithun Nama and Ranjit Das, there has been a noticeable decline in thefts in Melaghar and its surrounding areas over the past few days, providing much-needed relief to the residents.

“The capture of these thieves has brought us a sense of safety we haven’t felt in a long time. We hope the authorities will continue to take strict action against any criminal activities,” said a local resident.
