Agartala, 3rd May 2026: The civil and police administration in Tripura’s North District has put in place extensive security measures, including a three-tier security system, to ensure smooth and peaceful counting of votes for the Dharmanagar assembly by-election.
The by-election, held on April 9, was conducted following the death of MLA and Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen. The polling witnessed a high voter turnout of 80.04%.
DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath, after reviewing the arrangements at the counting centre located at PM Shri Dharmanagar Government Girls School, along with North District SP Avinash Rai and SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, confirmed that all preparations are complete.
He stated that counting will begin at 8 am tomorrow. To manage security and prevent overcrowding, two layers of barricading have been installed and Section 163 BNSS has been enforced around the venue.
A three-tier security deployment will be in place to maintain order and regulate movement, supported by fixed pickets and mobile patrolling teams. Personnel from TSR and Tripura Police will be on duty, with provisions for additional forces if required, although officials believe the current arrangements will be sufficient.
The DIG noted that North District has successfully conducted previous elections, including a by-election and Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council polls, without any major law and order issues, expressing confidence that the counting process will also remain peaceful.
