Agartala, June 27, 2023: The two and a half kilometres road from Sonarbasa on the Dharmanagar-Kadamtala main road to Bhagyapur via Yakubnagar is in a very bad condition. For long 25 years, the villagers have repeatedly expressed their demands to the leaders, ministers and officials of the PWD department for the repair of this road. But nothing was gained.

Finally, on Tuesday, the villagers blocked the Dharmanagar Kadamtala main road at Sonarbasa area. The blockade started from 10 am on Tuesday.

On receiving the news, various police officers rushed to the area. Officials including the executive engineer of the PWD department Sukamal Chakma rushed to the area. But according to local residents, the road will be opened if the District Magistrate or Chief Engineer gives them full assurance otherwise the blockade will continue indefinitely.

Notably, there are 300 families living in this area and two SB schools. On the one hand, it is an end to the suffering of the common people, on the other hand, it has become the daily life of school students to go to school on this road. The District Magistrate did not come and sent a senior DC Sanjib Das a little late but the words of this DC did not satisfy the villagers. They are seeking assurances from the education authorities.

It should be noted that last year, for the renovation of this road, the PWD department in Dharmanagar sent a copy of the plan along with the renovation to the construction authority. But no effective action has been taken by the evacuation authorities so far.

The villagers said that leaders, ministers and departmental officials are ignoring their demands day after day. All the Hindu Muslims of the area were forced to block the road together.

They also said that if someone is sick, it has become very difficult to take him to the hospital. Patients who are unconscious to be taken to the hospital are prone to drop to death. So they have no other option but to be helpless and block the road.

The villagers said that this road blockade will continue for an indefinite period. Only if the District Magistrate or Chief Engineer gives a firm assurance, this blockade will be lifted.

Meanwhile, as a result of this road blockade, hundreds of vehicles have stranded on both sides.
