Agartala, 24th December 2024: The Dharmanagar police recovered 200 grams of heroin and arrested a smuggler on Tuesday afternoon. Acting on a secret tip-off, the police conducted a raid and apprehended the individual along with eighteen packets of heroin.
Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar police station Sritikanta Vardhan stated, “Based on a secret tip-off, we conducted a raid in the Krishnapur area and arrested a suspicious youth carrying a market bag. Upon searching the bag, we found eighteen packets of heroin stored in soap boxes.”
Bardhan further explained that the weight of the recovered heroin was approximately 200 grams. “The individual, named Imam Uddin, who was found smuggling the heroin, has been arrested. His residence is in ward number six of Rowa Gram Panchayat under Panisagar police station,” he added.
The arrest of Imam Uddin is particularly notable given the ongoing issue of narcotics smuggling in the North district, which is known to be a corridor for drug entry. Despite numerous narcotics recoveries in different parts of the state, there have been no reports of arrests in the North district until now.
“This arrest is a significant achievement for us,” Vardhan commented. “A case under the NDPS section has been registered against Imam Uddin, and an investigation has commenced. We aim to uncover details about the destination of the heroin and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling ring.”
The police’s swift action and the successful apprehension of the smuggler highlight their ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the region. The investigation continues as authorities work to dismantle the network of smugglers operating in the area.
