Agartala, 5th June 2024:  In a collective outcry for basic amenities, the residents of North Haroa village in Dharmanagar have taken to the streets creating a blockade that has brought attention to their long-standing grievances. The villagers demand immediate action to address the dire lack of drinking water, the deteriorating condition of their roads, and the erratic electricity supply that has plagued their daily lives.

“For many days now, we’ve been left in a state of neglect,” said a local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous. “Our roads are in shambles, our taps run dry, and the power cuts have become a cruel joke on our existence.”

The situation reached a tipping point on Wednesday morning when, driven by desperation, the villagers decided to block the road as a form of protest. The blockade caused significant disruption, with traffic grinding to a halt and the plight of commuters intensifying by the hour.

A spokesperson for the blockaders shared their frustration, “We’ve raised our voices time and again, through every channel available to us, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The authorities’ indifference to our electricity woes is unacceptable. And the roads— they’re death traps, not just for the sick in need of urgent care but for all of us.”

The blockade drew the attention of the local police force, who arrived on the scene to negotiate with the protesters. After discussions, the villagers were given an assurance that their concerns would be taken up with the Electricity and Water Department.

“We need more than just promises; we need solutions,” insisted another villager. “We demand a regular water supply, consistent electricity, and immediate road repairs. Our lives cannot be put on hold any longer.”

The blockade was lifted following the police’s intervention and the assurance of a dialogue with the relevant departments. However, the villagers remain wary, their trust in the system hanging by a thread, as they await tangible changes in their living conditions.
