Agartala, 5th June 2024: In celebration of World Environment Day, the Sepahijala Zoo Authority and the Tripura Journalists Union Bishalgarh sub-committee hosted a joint tree plantation program on Wednesday. The event took place within Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary aimed to highlight the importance of environmental conservation and the role of tree planting in combating global warming.
The day’s activities began with a discussion on the significance of World Environment Day and the critical need for tree planting. Speakers included Goutam Ghosh, Secretary of the Tripura Journalists Union Bishalgarh sub-committee, Biswajit Das, Director of the Sepahijala Zoo and senior journalist and union’s adviser Prasenjit Roy. They emphasized the severe impacts of global warming and underscored tree planting as a vital measure to protect and preserve nature.
Following the discussion, participants from both the zoo authorities and the journalists’ union engaged in a tree plantation drive within the sanctuary. Notable participants included Union district committee Treasurer Swarup Saha, Sub-Committee office secretary Rasel Ahmed, District Committee member Sanjay Deb and Sub-Committee members Sarjit Debnath and Ershad Mia.
The collaborative effort reflected a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, aiming to inspire broader community involvement in similar green initiatives. The event not only marked World Environment Day but also reinforced the ongoing efforts to enhance ecological awareness and action.
