Agartala, 14th May 2024 : A dismissed teacher from the West Noagaon area Madhav Debnath grapples with the dire consequences of unemployment and a severe liver disease. Debnath, who once dedicated his life to educating others, now faces the grim reality of his own existence slipping away.
“Life has thrown one challenge after another at me,” said a visibly distraught Debnath from his hospital bed at GB Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment for the past eight days. “After losing my job, I sold part of my home for treatment, hoping for a cure that never came.”
Despite his efforts, including a loan of 2 lakh rupees, recovery remains elusive. “I fought with every ounce of strength, but it seems everything is coming to an end,” he lamented, the weight of his financial and emotional turmoil evident in his voice.
Ratna Debnath, Madhav’s wife, echoed her husband’s despair. “We’re at the brink,” she said, tears streaming down her face. “Without the job, our financial stability crumbled. Now, with mounting medical bills and the loan, I fear for our future.”
The family’s plight has not gone unnoticed. A group representing the 10,323 dismissed teachers visited Debnath, offering solidarity and support. They, too, call upon Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to extend a helping hand.
“If the Chief Minister steps in, perhaps there’s a chance for my husband,” Ratna implored. “That’s our only hope, our only demand.”
As the Debnath family faces this crisis, the question looms large: Will the government intervene to aid a former teacher in his hour of need, or will Madhav Debnath become yet another casualty of circumstance?
