District-level consultation on ‘Textiles for Global Markets’ held at Dharmanagar

Agartala 20th July 2026:   A district-level consultation program on ‘Textiles for Global Markets’ was organized in Dharmanagar on Monday, highlighting opportunities for Tripura’s traditional handloom, handicrafts, and sericulture products in international markets. The event took place at the Arjendu Smriti Bhattacharjee Hall at 11:30 AM, under the initiative of the Directorate of Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Government of Tripura, with support from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The program brought together artisans, craftsmen, and stakeholders from across the district to deliberate on strategies for expanding the reach of locally produced textiles and handicrafts to global buyers. Detailed discussions were held on market expansion, product diversification, and the potential of Tripura’s heritage crafts in international trade.

The consultation was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty. Distinguished guests included District Sabhadhipati Arpana Nath, MLA of Bagbasa constituency Yadav Lal Nath, and Ajit Shukla Das, IAS, Additional Secretary and Director of Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Tripura Government, among others.

Speakers emphasized that initiatives like this are crucial to empower artisans and ensure that their products gain recognition and demand in global markets. The program was seen as a significant step toward strengthening Tripura’s textile sector and creating new avenues for economic growth.
