Petrol pump water mixing allegation sparks outcry at Dharmanagar

Date:

Agartala 20th July 2026:   A shocking allegation has surfaced in North Tripura’s Dharmanagar, where customers claim petrol mixed with water is being sold at the historic BOC petrol pump near the motor stand area. The controversy erupted after a motorcycle rider’s complaint and a related video went viral on social media, triggering widespread public uproar across the district.

According to the complainant, he had been a regular customer of the pump but recently faced repeated mechanical failures in his motorcycle after refueling there. When he confronted the pump staff, they reportedly explained that the fuel was government-approved ethanol-blended petrol (E20). However, the customer alleged that plain water was being mixed under the guise of ethanol, causing damage to his vehicle’s engine.

The viral video shows the aggrieved customer demanding answers from pump employees. Its circulation has heightened anxiety among vehicle owners, with many expressing doubts about fuel quality. Local residents and bikers have demanded immediate collection of fuel samples and impartial laboratory testing to uncover the truth.

So far, the BOC petrol pump authorities have not issued any official statement. Citizens insist that only an independent investigation can establish the facts. Meanwhile, demands have grown for urgent intervention by the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and the concerned Oil Marketing Company (OMC). Dharmanagar residents have warned that if the allegations are proven true, strict legal action must be taken against those responsible to safeguard consumer interests.
