Agartala, 25th May 2024 : A disturbing incident has shaken Harailong area under Teliamura sub-division in Khowai district as a drawing teacher has been arrested on charges of molesting a minor student. The Teliamura Police Station staff took swift action following a complaint against Shankar Majumdar, who is accused of the heinous act.
“An eight-year-old girl, who was receiving drawing lessons at the home of Shankar Majumdar, was subjected to molestation,” stated a police officer. The family’s complaint led to the registration of case number 36/2024 alleged that the teacher took advantage of his position to commit the crime.
The sections invoked in this case include 354 IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act, reflecting the serious nature of the allegations. “Upon receiving the complaint, our officers acted promptly to ensure the safety of the child and the community. The accused was arrested and brought to the station for further investigation,” the official added.
This case has sparked outrage in Teliamura, with residents expressing their shock and condemnation. “Teachers are supposed to be the pillars of society, guiding and nurturing our children. It’s appalling to see such trust betrayed,” commented a local resident.
The incident has highlighted the need for vigilance and stringent measures to protect children from such predators. The police have assured that they are committed to a thorough investigation and are calling for anyone with additional information to come forward.
