Drinking water crisis deepens in Minister Bikash Debbarma’s Krishnapur assembly constituency

Date:

Agartala, 4th June 2026:    Allegations of severe drinking water shortages and growing public dissatisfaction have surfaced from various parts of the Krishnapur Assembly constituency, represented by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma.

Residents of the landless Tilla area, where nearly 70 families reside, have voiced strong concerns over what they describe as prolonged neglect of basic civic amenities. According to local inhabitants, the area has been grappling with a chronic drinking water crisis for an extended period. Although a large water tank and pumping infrastructure were reportedly installed, residents allege that regular water supply has not been ensured, leaving families to struggle for access to safe drinking water.

The issue has triggered resentment among local residents, who claim that repeated appeals for intervention have not yielded satisfactory results. Several villagers alleged that despite being their elected representative, Minister Bikash Debbarma has remained largely absent from the area.

Locals further claimed that the Minister visited the locality only once before the 2023 Assembly elections during the campaign period and has not returned since. Such perceptions, residents say, have contributed to growing frustration among the electorate.

The discontent is reportedly not confined to the landless Tilla area alone. Similar grievances concerning socio-economic issues and public services are being raised from different localities across the Krishnapur constituency. According to residents, dissatisfaction has spread among sections of the general public, local Panchayat representatives, and even some ruling party workers and supporters.

While electoral outcomes remain uncertain and depend on numerous factors, the ongoing drinking water crisis and allegations of administrative neglect have become major concerns for many residents, who are increasingly demanding prompt action to address their basic needs and improve public services in the constituency.
