Drinking Water Crisis Hits Satchand Block Despite ‘Har Ghar Jal’ Claims

Date:

Agartala, 7th May 2026: Even as signboards promoting the government’s “Har Ghar Jal” scheme remain visible across the state, several areas of Tripura continue to struggle with a severe drinking water crisis. One such alarming situation has emerged in ONGC Para under Satcchaand Block, where residents have reportedly been suffering from an acute shortage of drinking water for nearly two months.

According to local residents, the water supply in the area has remained completely disrupted during this period, forcing many families to endure immense hardship in their daily lives. Despite repeated appeals to the concerned department and Panchayat authorities, no permanent solution has yet been provided.

Local resident Amulya Karmakar alleged that the authorities have been informed several times about the crisis, but the problem still persists. Although water is occasionally being supplied through departmental vehicles, residents claim that the quantity is far from sufficient to meet the needs of all households.

As a result, many families are being compelled to collect water from distant locations. The crisis has particularly affected women, children, and elderly residents, who are facing increasing difficulties in managing daily chores, cooking, and accessing safe drinking water.

Residents further stated that even alternative sources such as tube wells are failing to provide adequate clean water. The prolonged shortage has triggered growing anger among the local population, with many demanding immediate intervention from the administration to restore normal drinking water services in the area at the earliest.
