Agartala, 8th March 2024:  The All Drivers Welfare Association (ADWA) has demanded a higher compensation for drivers who lose their lives or mobility in road accidents. The organization held a press conference at the Agartala Press Club on Friday to voice their concerns.

Sahajan Miah, the Gomati district leader of ADWA, said that they had sent a demand letter to the central and state governments, but received no reply. He said that the current compensation of 20 lakh rupees for death and 10 lakh rupees for disability was inadequate and unfair. He also asked for pension and allowance for drivers.

The ADWA represents the interests of drivers of various vehicles, such as buses, trucks, taxis, and auto-rickshaws. The organization claims that drivers face many risks and challenges on the road, and deserve better recognition and support from the authorities.
