Agartala, 3rd October 2025 : As Tripura revels in the joyous spirit of Durga Puja, police personnel have intensified their efforts to maintain public order and curb illegal drug activities. In a series of successful operations on Tuesday night, Kailashahar Police under Unakoti District arrested three individuals involved in illicit liquor and drug trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a shop owned by Sukesh Nama at Jagannathpur and seized approximately 300 bottles of foreign liquor valued at nearly Rs 1 lakh. The operation was led by OC Tapas Malakar of Kailashahar Police Station. Sukesh was taken into custody at the scene. “We are committed to maintaining law and order during the festive season and will continue such operations in the coming days,” said OC Malakar.
In a separate late-night raid, a special police team intercepted a suspicious auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR02B-3899 near Srirampur Bridge. Upon inspection, 100 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered. The driver was arrested on the spot, along with two others identified as Malik Mia and Fayzul Ali. Authorities suspect that further interrogation may reveal links to larger drug networks operating in the region. Police believe these substances are being smuggled from border areas and distributed across the state.
The operation was overseen by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rughul A (IPS), OC Tapas Malakar and a large contingent of police personnel.
Local sources indicate a surge in illegal liquor trade during Durga Puja, prompting swift and strict action from the police. Both the auto-rickshaw and the contraband have been seized. The police have reiterated their commitment to a drug-free Tripura, stating, “There will be no compromise in our fight against narcotics.”
