Agartala, 8th December 2025: North Tripura police apprehended a notorious drug trafficker late Sunday night from South Kadamtala under Kadamtala Police Station, recovering heroin valued at several lakhs in the illegal market.
According to police sources, officers were conducting routine night patrolling when they noticed a young man acting suspiciously in the South Kadamtala area. As police attempted to stop him, he tried to flee, prompting officers to chase and detain him on the spot.
Suspecting that he might be carrying narcotics, the patrolling team immediately contacted Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Debnath. Under his direction, SDPO Dharmanagar Jayanta Karmakar, DCM personnel, and a forensic team reached the location. During a thorough search, the team discovered 38 grams of heroin hidden inside a plastic packet concealed within a soap case.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ambar Ali, also known as Pir, aged 25, son of Bolu Mia. He is a resident of Ward No. 1 under South Kadamtala Gram Panchayat, police confirmed.
OC Jayanta Debnath stated that a case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and a detailed investigation is underway. On Monday, the accused was produced before the Dharmanagar court along with a request for police remand.
Police further revealed that the seized heroin carries a black-market value running into several lakhs of rupees. They also indicated that Ambar Ali has been under suspicion for a long time, allegedly involved not only in drug trafficking but also in theft and robbery. Several such cases against him are reportedly pending trial in Tripura as well as in neighbouring Assam.
Authorities have intensified their investigation to identify others connected to the drug network and to dismantle the broader trafficking chain.
