Dry cannabis worth Rs 3 lakh seized at Churaibari checkpoint; Truck driver arrested

Agartala, 28th August 2025:   Churaibari police station staff intercepted a consignment of illegal narcotics during routine naka checking, seizing approximately Rs 3 lakh worth of dry cannabis and arresting the truck driver involved.

According to officials, the seizure occurred when officers stopped a container mini truck bearing registration number AS01MC-6297, arriving from Agartala en route to Silchar. Upon inspection, police discovered ten concealed packets containing a total of 26.2 kilograms of dry cannabis hidden behind returned transport goods.

The operation was conducted in the presence of DCM T. Debbarma and forensic officer N.K. Reang. The seized contraband was formally documented and confiscated as part of the legal procedure.

The arrested driver, identified as Safiur Rahman (30), son of Talukdar Sardar, hails from Baldamari Char in Assam’s Goalpara district. Police confirmed that the vehicle was headed toward Silchar at the time of interception.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kamal Debbarma stated that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

This marks the first major success in anti-narcotics operations under the newly appointed Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari Police Station Debabrata Biswas since assuming charge.
