Agartala, 28th August 2025: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that protecting child rights is not merely the duty of governments or institutions alone but a collective responsibility of families, communities, and society at large.
He also informed that in Tripura, from 2022 to 2025, around 28 children have found loving homes through legal adoption, and Special Juvenile Police Units are now active in every district.
Dr. Saha said this while addressing the One-Day North Eastern Regional Convention on Child Rights at Prajna Bhavan today.
“We know that children’s rights have their own space within the human rights domain. They are not miniature adults. They are human beings. So, we must protect them. Children are the future of our nation, and they are our foundation,” he said.
Dr. Saha further said that if we neglect children, we neglect the future of our country.
“We have to care for them so that our future will be protected. All of us in society need to spend more time for the children. If adults have social and economic rights, why should children not have the same? They are not a separate category of human beings. Children are our next generation. We cannot forget them. One in every five children in the world lives in India,” he said.
Dr. Saha also mentioned that with the right support, children can shine not only in India but also across the world.
“In Tripura, we are working tirelessly to safeguard and empower our children. At present, we are running about 44 child care institutions, providing shelter and care to nearly 950 children. All 8 districts of Tripura now have Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees. More than 4,200 children are being supported under the sponsorship program. Through aftercare services, 14 young adults have been assisted with guidance and reintegration after leaving child care institutions” Dr. Saha said.
He further informed that under the nutrition and health schemes of ICDS and Poshan Abhiyan, around 2.29 lakh children were covered in July 2025 alone, ensuring improved nutrition, growth monitoring, and prevention of malnutrition.
During the event, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Chairperson of NCPCR Tripti Gurha, Secretary of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapas Roy, and Director of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapan Kumar Das were present.
