Elderly couple alleges abuse by son at Matarbari

Date:

Agartala, 5th May 2026:   A disturbing case of social decline has surfaced from Matarbari village, where an elderly couple has accused their only son of continuous physical and mental abuse.

Reportedly, 80-year-old Sunil Pal and his 70-year-old wife, Hiron Bala Pal, claim that their son, Monoranjan Pal, has subjected them to repeated harassment. Despite financial hardship, the couple managed to marry off their three daughters and raise their son, but say their lives took a tragic turn after his marriage.

Currently dependent on old-age pension and their son for daily expenses and medical needs, the couple alleges that Monoranjan, an auto driver, returns home drunk almost every day, verbally abuses them, and physically assaults them. The mother, Hiron Bala, is reportedly the primary target of his violence.

She further stated that on several occasions she was forced out of the house at night, walking half a kilometer with the aid of a stick to seek shelter at a neighbor’s home in Baluchhara Para. This ordeal has allegedly continued for the past three years.

The couple claims they lodged multiple complaints with Jatrapur police station, but no effective action has been taken. Left with no alternative, they have now turned to the media for help.

The incident has sparked outrage in the locality, with neighbors expressing sympathy but lamenting the absence of a solution. Standing at the twilight of their lives, the couple has raised a painful question: “Where will we live, and how will we survive our remaining days?”

Local residents have urged the administration to intervene immediately, ensure the couple’s safety, and take strict legal action against the accused son.
