Agartala, 16th March 2024:   The Election Commission of Tripura has announced that the polling for the 1-Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency and the by-election for the 7-Ramnagar Assembly seat will be conducted concurrently on April 19, 2024. Dr. Vishal Kumar, the District Election Officer (DEO) and District Magistrate of West Tripura, confirmed the details in a press conference held this evening at the district magistrate’s office.

Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of collaboration among the electorate and political parties to ensure a seamless election process. He also called upon the media’s support to uphold a fair and transparent electoral environment.

The DEO revealed that the official notification for the elections is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2024. The 1-West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency encompasses 30 assembly segments, with a total voter population of 14,61,836. This includes 7,33,645 male voters, 7,28,315 female voters, 58 third gender voters, and 5,120 service voters, of which 5,808 are male and 112 are female. Notably, the number of voters from the Divyang (differently-abled) community has seen an increase of 15 to 20 percent since the last assembly elections, totaling 7,818.

To facilitate a smooth voting experience for all, including Divyang voters, Dr. Kumar stated that 1,685 polling stations have been established within the West Tripura parliamentary constituency. Each assembly constituency will feature 1 to 2 model polling stations and similarly, 1 to 2 polling stations staffed entirely by women. Out of these, 793 polling stations are located in the western district alone. The DEO expressed optimism that the state’s tradition of high voter turnout will continue and assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a fair and free election.

In today’s all-party meeting, representatives from various political factions convened to discuss the electoral process. The 7-Ramnagar constituency, which is gearing up for the by-election, has a total of 45,669 voters, comprising 23,629 female and 22,040 male voters.

In a related development, the West District Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar, assured that the law and order situation in the district is well in hand. He reported that regular patrols are being conducted in sensitive areas to maintain peace and order during the election period.

The upcoming elections are a focal point for the residents of Tripura, who are keenly observing the developments and preparing to exercise their democratic rights. The Election Commission’s efforts to ensure inclusivity and security have been well-received by the community, setting the stage for what is hoped to be a successful electoral exercise.
