Agartala, 21st June 2025:   While sections of society grapple with the misuse of social media, one youth-led initiative in Tripura is rewriting that narrative through service and selflessness. The Emergency Blood Group, a social organization formed six years ago in Sonamura, celebrated its sixth anniversary and hosted a felicitation program today at the Nermahal fairground.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of blood donors from across the state, who jointly inaugurated the ceremony. Thirteen active members from various districts were honored with mementos in recognition of their consistent and voluntary service.

Launched through platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook by a small group of socially conscious youth, the Emergency Blood Group has evolved into a vast network of over 12,000 members. Their mission: to ensure blood reaches patients in need without charge across Tripura and beyond.

What began as a local initiative has now expanded its reach across national and international borders, serving patients in Kolkata, Assam, other Indian states, and even in Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. The group operates by mobilizing donors instantly through digital communication whenever a blood requirement arises, often bridging critical gaps during emergencies.

In its six-year journey, the group claims to have facilitated blood donations for over 5,000 individuals. Speaking at the event, the group’s directors reaffirmed their commitment to continue this humanitarian mission, emphasizing that the collective efforts of these young volunteers stand as a powerful testament to social media’s potential for public good.
