Agartala, 3rd June 2025:  A group of local youths fishing in the floodwaters of Tel Kajla, Melaghar stumbled upon a wild animal floating in the water yesterday. Acting swiftly, they rescued the distressed creature, which is believed to be an endangered shy monkey or ‘slow loris’.

Uncertain about the exact species, the rescuers speculated that the animal could belong to a rare and protected category native to the state. Concerned for its safety, the residents promptly informed the forest department this morning.

Upon arrival, officials from the forest department took charge of the rescued animal, ensuring its proper care and verification of its species. Authorities are expected to assess its condition and determine the next steps for its rehabilitation.
