Agartala, 14th February 2026: Following directives from the Supreme Court, the Teliamura Municipal Council has launched an eviction drive to free public footpaths from illegal encroachments. For years, unlicensed vendors and makeshift establishments had occupied busy sidewalks across the town, causing serious inconvenience to pedestrians.
To ensure safe and smooth movement for residents, the council took strict measures, deploying bulldozers to demolish unauthorized shops and stalls built on government land. Officials present during the operation declined to comment to the media.
Deputy CEO Pradip Kumar Sarkar, DCM Biswajit Majumdar, along with a large police contingent and CRPF personnel, supervised the drive. Tight security arrangements were made to prevent any untoward incidents.
While many locals welcomed the initiative, affected traders expressed strong resentment. The crackdown has sparked mixed reactions across Teliamura, with some praising the restoration of public space and others criticizing the loss of livelihoods.
