Agartala, 3rd June 2025:   Prolonged waterlogging in the Sukh Sagar water body area of the Udaipur subdivision continues to impact farmers with no government intervention in sight. The stagnant water has left hundreds of kani of farmland submerged, preventing cultivation and causing significant losses to the local agricultural community.

Speaking to reporters here, CPI(ML) state secretary Partha Karmakar highlighted the issue describing Sukh Sagar water body as a vital agricultural resource. He blamed the construction of a railway line for exacerbating the problem stating that repeated appeals to the district and sub-division magistrates for water drainage measures have gone unanswered. As a result, the land has remained inundated for years, severely affecting farmers’ livelihoods.

The situation has worsened in recent days following the arrival of monsoon winds and heavy rainfall, further submerging the area. Reports indicate that several houses in Khilpara have also been affected, with residents facing flooding-related hardships.

Renewing the call for action, Karmakar urged the government to take immediate steps to drain the accumulated water in the reservoir emphasizing the urgent need for relief for affected farmers and residents. Despite persistent demands, the authorities have yet to respond, leaving the farming community uncertain about the future of their land.
