Agartala, 3rd June 2025: The Teliamura Block Congress submitted a deputation to the Executive Officer of the Teliamura Municipal Council today presenting an 18-point demand related to public interest in the municipal area. The delegation, led by former MLA Ashok Kumar Baidya included several party leaders.
Speaking to media personnel after submitting the memorandum, Baidya outlined the key demands. “The proposal to take action against the abnormal increase in property tax is included in today’s demand certificate. Additionally, there are demands related to wage increases for sanitation workers, higher labor wages for the TUEP, repairs of non-functioning streetlights and tenders for various water pipelines,” he stated.
Baidya further claimed that the Chief Executive Officer acknowledged the validity of these demands and assured that they would be forwarded to higher authorities. “We expect positive steps to be taken soon,” he added.
However, the event took an unexpected turn when details emerged regarding Baidya’s own pending dues. According to municipal records, Baidya, a resident of Ward No. 5 (Holding No. – 050220), has not paid his property tax since April 2023, with an outstanding amount of ₹15,612.
The revelation that the leader spearheading demands on various public issues has himself defaulted on property tax has sparked discussions, raising questions about the accountability of political leadership.
