Agartala, 20th July 2025: Grief-stricken and devastated, a father standing outside the GB Hospital morgue has publicly blamed the Tripura government for his son’s death calling it a “drug-centric” administration that has failed to safeguard the youth.
The deceased 22-year-old Piyush Rishi Das hailed from the Aralia area of the capital city. His father Tapan Rishi Das recounted the painful journey of trying to save his eldest son, who had fallen into substance abuse over the past four years. “This government is ruining lives by feeding addiction through fear and token jobs. We don’t want such governance,” he said.
Despite repeated efforts and medical intervention, Piyush’s condition worsened. He worked for a bottled water company but reportedly spent his earnings on brown sugar, which eventually consumed his health and future.
“He was addicted for years, we tried everything—from doctors to rehabilitation—but the system failed us,” the father said, his voice breaking. Over the last few days, Piyush’s health deteriorated and he was admitted to GB Hospital, where doctors attempted intensive treatment but could not save him.
Tapan Rishi Das warned of a growing crisis: “If the government doesn’t take a positive role, we will lose more sons. Young men are being destroyed by drugs. Who will rescue them?” He appealed for urgent policy change and stronger intervention to curb substance abuse among the youth.
The body was later handed over to the family. The father inconsolable and in tears mourned the loss of his child as yet another casualty in what he described as a failing system.
