Agartala, 24th April 2025:  A serious complaint has been lodged with the District Magistrate and Chief Medical Officer after a father alleged mistreatment by a nurse while seeking urgent medical care for his sick daughter.

According to the complaint filed by Jakir Mia, a resident of Khupilang, Udaipur, his five-year-old daughter suddenly fell ill on April 19 at approximately 2 am. Concerned for her health, Jakir rushed her to the Gomati District Hospital, where the attending physician advised him to admit her immediately for medical attention.

However, when Mia proceeded to the Pediatric ward, he found no nurses on duty. He claimed they were inside a locked room, fast asleep. Upon attempting to open the door, nurse Monowara Begum allegedly reacted with hostility and began verbally abusing him. “Don’t we have time to sleep? Are you calling so late at night—should you admit the child?” she reportedly shouted.

Despite the confrontation, Mia insisted that his daughter receive proper care, ultimately leading to her admission to the ward. However, the incident has raised concerns about the conduct of medical staff at the hospital. “Do health workers go to hospitals to sleep after receiving public money?” Mia questioned expressing frustration over the ordeal.

Sources claim that this is not an isolated incident, alleging that parents frequently face mistreatment from the same nurse. However, fear of repercussions prevents many from speaking out. Determined to seek justice, Miah officially filed a written complaint yesterday urging authorities to launch an investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action.

Now, all eyes are on local officials, including the District Magistrate, to determine how they will respond to the serious allegations raised in the complaint.

As of now, hospital authorities have not issued a statement regarding the matter. The incident has fueled public concern over patient care, particularly in emergency services, where immediate attention can be critical.
