Agartala, 24th April 2025: Residents of North Chelagang and Khedarnal were frustrated by 15 days of electricity and drinking water shortages had staged a road blockade today obstructing the Natunbazar-Amarpur National Highway. Women’s group led the demonstration caused significant disruption, leaving college students, examinees and commuters stranded.
Authorities quickly responded as police from Natunbazar Police Station arrived at the scene to manage the situation. Meanwhile Amalya Sadhan Jamatia, an official from the Power department rushed to the area following reports of the protest. According to the demonstrators, repeated attempts to contact the electricity department had gone unanswered.
Eyewitnesses claim that tensions escalated during discussions with the official, leading to heated exchanges. Ultimately, Jamatia assured the protesters that electricity service would be restored within an hour, prompting the withdrawal of the blockade. Following his assurances, movement on the highway resumed, bringing relief to those affected by the standoff.
Residents, however, continue to voice concerns over persistent service disruptions urging authorities to implement lasting solutions to prevent future unrest.
