Agartala, 8th October 2026 : Panic gripped the Ganaki Jagannath Ashram area of Khowai after a fire broke out in a small room beside a residential house late Wednesday night.
According to reports, family members of local resident Sanjay Das noticed the fire at around 1:30 am. The flames quickly intensified, prompting neighbours to rush to the spot and alert the fire and emergency services.
Firefighters reached the area shortly after and, with the assistance of local residents, managed to bring the blaze under control. However, several household items kept inside the room were destroyed in the fire.
A major tragedy was reportedly averted as two larger residential rooms of the Das family were located on either side of the room that caught fire. Had the flames not been contained in time, the fire could have spread to both structures, potentially causing extensive damage.
The exact cause of the fire remains unclear. However, house owner Sanjay Das has alleged that the fire may have been deliberately set, raising suspicion of possible arson.
A written complaint has reportedly been lodged at Khowai Police Station in connection with the incident. Police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint.
Authorities are now looking into how the fire started and whether there was any deliberate attempt to set the room ablaze. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
