Five dead, 30 injured after Agartala-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express hit by goods train

Agartala, 17th June 2024:  As many as five persons died while around 30 sustained severe injuries after Agartala-Sealdah Bound Kanchanjungha Express met with an accident.

Kanchanjunga Express was travelling from Agartala to Sealdah in Kolkata when a goods train hit it from behind near Rangapani station, close to New Jalpaiguri.

The collision happened soon after the Kanchanjunga Express started its journey from the New Jalpaiguri Station to Sealdah.

Reacting on the matter Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha wrote, “In a tragic incident, I learned that the Agartala-Sealdah bound Kanchanjungha Express met with an accident near New Jalpaiguri. Three coaches were particularly damaged in the collision with a freight train. Rescue operations have already started. I wish the injured in this accident a speedy recovery”.
