Agartala, 16th April 2025:   Uncontrolled traffic and illegal parking continue to plague Tripura, prompting growing concerns about rising accidents in West Tripura district. Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb highlighted this issue today during a road safety committee meeting held at the Sonar Tari Guest House here.

In a meeting that highlighted the urgent need for measures to improve road safety, Deb stated, “The administration must take strict action to regulate traffic and address illegal parking across the city. These issues are directly contributing to the alarming rate of accidents in the district.” The former CM emphasized the critical need for public awareness and active participation, especially from the youth, to help curb these trends.

The quarterly meeting of the committee, dedicated to promoting road safety, was attended by prominent figures, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor & MLA Dipak Majumdar and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar. Key discussions revolved around creating a robust road safety action plan for the district, with specific goals aimed at reducing fatalities caused by accidents.

Speaking to reporters, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar outlined the meeting’s agenda, saying, “Our focus today was on identifying the root causes of road accidents and ensuring the implementation of stringent safety standards. We’ve set clear targets for reducing the death rate and improving overall road safety.”

In addition to addressing immediate concerns, the committee aims to enforce traffic regulations more rigorously and study accident patterns across the district. “We must adopt a proactive approach to tackle this crisis. The administration will ensure the enforcement of traffic rules and parking regulations, and we encourage community involvement to spread awareness,” Dr. Kumar added.

Former CM Deb echoed these sentiments, calling on the youth of Tripura to lead initiatives for raising public awareness. “Safety begins with education,” he said. “Young people must take the lead in helping the community understand the importance of following traffic rules and fostering a culture of accountability on the roads.”
