Goat theft suspects handed over to police at Khowai

Agartala, 2nd May 2026:   Tension gripped the Barbil-Amatli area under Khowai police station after locals caught two tribal youths on suspicion of goat theft. The accused, identified as Milton Debbarma (19), son of Dharmendra Debbarma of Jumia Colony, and Sumen Debbarma (25), son of Amulya Debbarma of Hatimara, were detained by residents and later handed over to police.

According to reports, goat thefts have been rampant in the locality for some time. On spotting the suspects, villagers confronted them, demanding the return of the stolen goats or compensation. The situation grew tense until police intervened, rescuing the youths from possible mob violence.

The suspects were taken to Khowai police station for questioning as authorities attempt to trace the wider goat theft racket. The incident has sparked widespread commotion in the area.
