Agartala, 8th December 2025: Anger is brewing among traders in Madhupur market after local authorities sealed a warehouse but failed to initiate further legal proceedings against its owner.
It is reported that, a joint team from the Bishalgarh sub-divisional administration and Sepahijala District Police raided the warehouse of Rakesh Debnath, located near UCO Bank in Madhupur market, following a tip-off. During the raid, officials found large quantities of rice sacks along with cosmetic products, including scented powders and oils.
On the instructions of Deputy Collector Magistrate Prasenjit Das, the warehouse was sealed through official procedures. Debnath was directed to present valid documents for the stored goods at the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office the following day. However, sources confirm that Debnath failed to produce any paperwork, raising suspicions that the goods were being illegally stockpiled for cross-border smuggling into Bangladesh.
Despite the raid and Debnath’s inability to provide documentation, traders allege that authorities have yet to confiscate the seized items or initiate legal proceedings against him. This delay has sparked widespread frustration and speculation among market traders, who fear administrative leniency.
“Why has the administration not confiscated the rice, powders, and oils even after so many days? Why is no legal action being taken against the godown owner?” questioned several traders, expressing doubts over the administration’s role.
Local traders argue that since Debnath failed to submit valid documents within the stipulated time, the administration must act swiftly to seize the goods and pursue legal measures. They warn that continued inaction risks undermining trust in law enforcement and emboldening illegal trade practices in the region.
