Gold chain stolen from jewellery shop at Udaipur, thief arrested

Agartala, February 16:  A thief who stole a gold chain from a jewellery shop in Udaipur was arrested by the police on Thursday night. The police recovered the stolen chain from him.

The jewellery shop, Swarna Kamal Jewellers, is a famous gold jewellery shop in the state. It has opened a branch at Central Road, Udaipur from Agartala and has been doing business for several months.

According to the sources, a young man came from Amtali of Udaipur to buy a chain on Thursday. He took the chain in his pocket and left the shop without paying. The shop staff noticed the theft later and checked the CCTV footage. They saw the young man taking the gold chain in his pocket.

They lodged a written complaint with the Radhakishore Pur Police Station. The officer in charge of the police station, Babul Das, took the case and started the investigation. He traced the thief and arrested him from Amtali last night. He brought him to the police station with the stolen chain.

Officer Das said, “The weight of the chain is 7.8 grams. The case number is 16/2024 under section 380 of IPC. We are interrogating the thief to find out if he is involved in any other crimes.”
