Agartala, 24th March 2026:    The Gomati District health administration has reported strong progress in the Intensified Malaria Elimination Campaign 2026, launched on March 15. The initiative aims to eliminate malaria parasite load before the monsoon season through mass screening of asymptomatic individuals.

This year’s campaign focuses on 46 hamlets identified as high-risk after malaria cases were reported in 2025. Out of a target population of 11,835 residents in these vulnerable areas, 5,306 have already been screened. District VBD Officer Dr. Saumik Chakraborty confirmed that no positive cases have been detected so far among the asymptomatic population. Full coverage is underway across 15 hamlets in Kaptali and Bagachatal under Silachari Block.

To ensure widespread testing, 24 health camps have been organized across the district. The strategy builds on last year’s data, when 108,332 symptomatic patients were tested, yielding 124 positive cases—all concentrated in the same 46 hamlets now prioritized for total population screening. In a similar drive in 2025, 7,156 individuals were screened (out of 7,685 targeted), with only one positive case detected.

Dr. Kamal Reang, Chief Medical Officer of Gomati, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the state’s 2027 malaria elimination target: “Our primary objective is to reach zero indigenous malaria cases. By screening entire populations in vulnerable hamlets, we ensure no carriers remain untreated before the high-transmission season.”

Adding to this, Dr. Ratnabir Singha, District VBDP Consultant, highlighted the clinical protocols: “Beyond initial screening, our focus is on Complete Radical Treatment. Every identified case—symptomatic or asymptomatic—receives free treatment to fully clear the parasite from the system.”

With proactive screening, comprehensive treatment, and targeted intervention, Gomati District is steadily advancing toward the state’s ambitious malaria-free milestone by 2027.
