Agartala, 4th January 2025: The state government is set to launch a new initiative called ‘Jagruti’ aimed at increasing students’ awareness about road safety and consumer rights protection. The program will commence on January 11, as announced by Transport and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during a press conference held at the Secretariat today.
Minister Chowdhury provided detailed information about the program, stating, “The ‘Jagruti’ program will be organized jointly by the Food Department and the Transport Department every year in January and February.” The program will include a quiz competition focusing on road safety, consumer rights protection, and the ill effects of addiction for students from 25 degree colleges across the state.
“On January 11, the launch day in Udaipur, a quiz competition will be held for students from degree colleges in Gomti, South Tripura, and Sepahijala districts,” said Chowdhury. Similar competitions will be held on January 18, 2025, in Kumarghat for students from Dhalai, Unakoti, and North Tripura districts and on January 27, 2025, in Agartala for students from West and Khowai districts. “The final quiz competition will take place in Agartala on February 8, 2025, featuring the three best quiz teams from each event. Attractive prizes will be awarded to the winners,” he added.
In addition to the quiz competition, the program will include helmet distribution among college students and rallies focused on road safety, consumer rights protection, and the dangers of addiction. The ‘Jagruti’ awareness program will receive support from the School of Science and Tripura Info.com.
Minister Chowdhury also mentioned, “Registration for the quiz competitions scheduled for January 11, January 18, and January 27 must be completed by January 10, January 14, and January 25, respectively. We plan to extend this program to the school level in the future.” Additionally, present at the conference were Subrata Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the Transport Department, Sumit Lodh, Director of the Food Department, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Head of the School of Science, and Jayanta Debnath, Managing Director of Tripura Info.com.
