Date:

Agartala, 31st July 2026 :  Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Runiel Debbarma on Friday called on Tripura Governor N. Indrasena Reddy at Raj Bhavan and extended an invitation to attend the World Indigenous Day programme to be held in Agartala on August 9.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Runiel Debbarma said the visit was primarily a courtesy call with the Governor, during which he formally invited him to grace the celebrations as the chief guest.

“Today, I had an appointment with His Excellency the Governor. It was essentially a courtesy visit. The main purpose of our meeting was to invite him as the chief guest for the World Indigenous Day programme, which will be organised on a grand scale in Agartala on August 9,” Debbarma said.

He informed that the TTAADC is making elaborate preparations to celebrate World Indigenous Day with large-scale participation from indigenous communities across the state. The programme is expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, traditions and identity of Tripura’s indigenous people through various cultural events and public gatherings.

Debbarma expressed hope that the Governor would attend the programme and encourage the initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting the customs, language and culture of the indigenous communities.

World Indigenous Day, observed annually on August 9, commemorates the rights, identity and contributions of indigenous peoples across the world.
