Three students injured in hornet attack at Khowai School

Date:

Agartala, 31st July 2026 :  Three primary students were injured after a swarm of hornets attacked them at the primary section of Khowai Government Higher Secondary School (Vidya Jyoti managed) on Friday morning, triggering protests from parents who accused the school authorities of negligence.

The incident occurred as the morning shift was ending. According to reports, hornets emerged from a nest located amid overgrown bushes on the school campus and attacked students playing on the school grounds. The injured students included Nilanjit Gope of Class III, Gourab Das of Class IV, and another student. They were rescued and provided first aid.

Parents alleged that despite repeated warnings and earlier media reports about the hornet’s nest, the school authorities failed to remove it or take preventive measures. They further claimed that, except for the principal, no teachers came out of the staff room during the incident, and alleged they faced harassment when they attempted to help their children.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with parents demanding accountability and immediate steps to ensure the safety of students on the school campus. School authorities had not issued an official response at the time of filing this report.
