Agartala, 31st July 2026 : Tripura’s Industries and Commerce Minister and Guardian Minister of North Tripura district, Santana Chakma, on Friday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of development works and address pending issues across various government departments in the district.
Addressing officials, elected representatives and department heads, Chakma said the state government has appointed guardian ministers for different districts to closely monitor developmental activities and ensure effective implementation of government schemes. She informed that the other guardian minister for North Tripura, Shuklacharan Noatia, could not attend the meeting due to his engagement in another official programme with the Chief Minister.
The minister said the primary objective of the meeting was to review ongoing development projects, identify bottlenecks, and ensure that pending works are completed within the stipulated time. “Our goal is to accelerate development in North Tripura and improve the welfare of the people. We discussed the issues faced by different departments and explored ways to resolve them quickly with the cooperation of all stakeholders,” she said.
Chakma noted that MLAs, chairpersons, district officials and representatives from various departments actively participated in the discussions and offered valuable suggestions. She stressed that the administration would take these recommendations into consideration to resolve problems promptly and ensure faster implementation of development initiatives.
North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran welcomed the guardian minister and presented an overview of the district’s administrative and demographic profile. She said North Tripura comprises three subdivisions, eight development blocks and two urban local bodies.
According to the District Magistrate, the district’s population has increased from 4.44 lakh, as recorded in the 2011 Census, to an estimated 6.14 lakh in 2026. Kadamtala is the district’s most populous block with around 76,000 residents, while Jampui Hill has the lowest population. Among the urban local bodies, Dharmanagar has a population of around 40,000, making it Tripura’s second-largest urban centre, while Panisagar has a population of approximately 10,000.
The review meeting focused on strengthening coordination among departments and ensuring the timely completion of ongoing development projects for the overall progress of North Tripura district.
