Agartala, 6th June 2025: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday said that a growing number of well-educated youths in Tripura are now embracing agriculture as a viable and profitable career, thanks to various initiatives rolled out by the state government.
Speaking at the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Phultali village under Kamalasagar Assembly constituency in Sepahijala district, Nath highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts to boost the agriculture sector.
“Soil testing is crucial for improved yield and sustainable farming, and we are offering this service free of cost to all farmers,” he said. Reiterating the government’s all-round support, Nath added, “We stand firmly with the farmers—not only in agriculture but also in fisheries, poultry, floriculture, and horticulture.”
The programme, now in its eighth day, saw participation from agricultural scientists, officials from various allied departments, and a large number of farmers from the locality. During the event, the Minister directed officials to ensure timely distribution of government-supplied seeds and to address any bottlenecks promptly so that cultivators do not face delays during the crop season.
Sharing success stories, Nath said many educated youths have taken to farming in recent years, earning substantial incomes—sometimes in lakhs—motivated by the government’s assistance.
“This is no longer just about tradition; agriculture is now a promising, income-generating profession,” he remarked. In a symbolic gesture, Nath assured local farmer Amiya Bala Das of a power tiller to support her work. Drawing a moving comparison, Nath said, “Farmers and jawans never go on strike. One feeds the nation, the other defends it. They are the true pillars of our country.” He urged farmers to make the most of available land: “Don’t leave it fallow—cultivate it. The government is with you at every step.”
