Agartala, 30th September 2026 : The state government is preparing a broader strategy to strengthen the state’s dairy sector and raise milk production, with the aim of meeting the growing demand for milk and dairy products, Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) Minister Sudhangshu Das said on Wednesday.
Das was speaking after a board meeting of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union, where issues related to increasing milk production, improving processing facilities and expanding the availability of dairy products were discussed.
The minister said the government is working with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to bring technical expertise and institutional support to the state’s dairy sector. A tripartite MoU has already been signed between the ARDD, Gomati Cooperative Milk Union and NDDB for promoting dairy development in Tripura.
He said the immediate focus would be on increasing milk production at the grassroots level and strengthening the cooperative system so that more milk can be procured, processed and supplied to consumers.
“Tripura’s present milk production is not sufficient to meet the demand. Therefore, our focus is on increasing production and ensuring better availability of milk and milk products,” Das said.
He added that NDDB’s experience in the dairy sector could help Tripura adopt improved methods, technologies and practices for production and processing.
The minister said the government also wants to ensure that the benefits of the dairy development programme reach milk producers while improving the availability of quality dairy products for consumers.
The board meeting was attended by the chairman of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union, the head of NDDB’s North Eastern operations, the ARD Department secretary and other officials and board members.
Das said the recommendations emerging from the meeting would be taken into consideration while preparing further measures to expand dairy production and strengthen the state’s milk supply network.
