Agartala, 2nd October 2024:  Transport Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, announced on Tuesday that the state government is considering the introduction of Ola and Uber services at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala.

The announcement came during the inauguration of a Prepaid Taxi Counter at the new terminal of MBB Airport, where the Minister also distributed uniforms to Prepaid Taxi and Auto Rickshaw drivers.

“Approximately 4,000 passengers pass through MBB Airport every day. The quality of service provided by our taxi and auto drivers is crucial to the reputation of our state. While a prepaid taxi counter was introduced last year, it was discontinued due to service issues. Many passengers, who arrived with a positive outlook, left dissatisfied because of subpar experiences. After discussions with the concerned parties, we have addressed these problems. Today, we have relaunched the prepaid auto service, and the uniforms are meant to promote self-respect among the drivers. Additionally, since January, we have been trialing a prepaid taxi service,” Minister Chowdhury explained.

Looking forward, he revealed that the state government aims to bring Ola and Uber services to the airport to enhance convenience for travelers.

“We are planning to introduce Ola and Uber services here at MBB Airport. While some local drivers have raised concerns, I urge them to consider purchasing vehicles and joining these platforms. Our primary goal is to benefit the people of Tripura. As seen in other airports across the country, these services will ensure better options for passengers. It’s also vital that we maintain a positive image of our state by treating visitors well,” Chowdhury added.
