Grandfather arrested for allegedly raping minor granddaughter

Agartala, 21st June 2026:   In a deeply disturbing incident, police have arrested an elderly man for allegedly raping his minor granddaughter, taking advantage of her parents’ temporary absence from home. The accused has been identified as Bishnupada Sarkar.

According to police and local sources, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of Bishalgarh Police Station. The victim’s parents had gone to attend a Ramayana Kirtan event, leaving the minor girl at home. Sarkar allegedly exploited the situation and subjected the child to sexual assault.

Upon returning home, the parents came to know about the horrific incident from their daughter. They immediately rushed to the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station and lodged a formal written complaint against Bishnupada Sarkar.

Acting promptly on the minor’s complaint, police arrested the accused. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim has been sent for a medical examination, and further investigation is underway.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Bishalgarh, with residents expressing outrage and anguish over the heinous crime. Many have condemned the betrayal of trust by a family elder.

Police officials confirmed that the accused is in custody and legal proceedings are in progress.
