International Day of Yoga observed across NFR with focus on healthy ageing and wellness

Agartala, 21st June 2026:   International Day of Yoga (IDY)-2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on June 21, highlighting the importance of yoga in promoting healthy living, physical fitness and mental well-being. Yoga sessions were organised at the NFR Headquarters, all five divisions, workshops and various railway establishments to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage employees and their families to make it a part of their daily lifestyle.

The theme of International Day of Yoga 2026, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” underlined the significance of yoga in maintaining physical strength, flexibility, balance and emotional resilience throughout life. The theme promotes the idea of a healthier and more active lifestyle by creating harmony between the body, mind and nature. Yoga continues to play an important role in preventive healthcare and improving the overall quality of life.

The 12th anniversary celebration of International Day of Yoga marked the continued global movement encouraging millions of people to adopt yoga for wellness and balanced living. Across the world, yoga has emerged as a practice that supports healthy ageing and promotes a sustainable approach towards health.

At the NFR Headquarters, the main programme was organised at the Railway Indoor Stadium, Maligaon. Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager, NFR, along with senior railway officials, participated in the event. Railway officers, staff members and their family members actively performed various yoga asanas, reflecting their commitment towards fitness and healthy lifestyle practices.

A similar programme was also organised by NFR (Construction) at the office of the General Manager (Construction), under the leadership of Shri Ashish Bansal, General Manager, NFR (Construction). The celebrations across all five divisions witnessed enthusiastic participation from thousands of railway employees and their family members.

The coordinated observance reflected NFR’s commitment towards employee welfare, preventive healthcare and promoting a culture of wellness. On the occasion, NFR also used social media platforms to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage people to include yoga in their daily routine for better health and active ageing.

International Day of Yoga, observed every year on June 21, symbolises balance, mindfulness and the connection between health, nature and overall well-being.
