Agartala, 16th August 2025: The sacred bond between guru and disciple, a cornerstone of Indian cultural heritage was celebrated with reverence at the district-level Guru Purnima event held at Nalchar Dashami Ghat Community Hall. Organized by the District Information and Cultural Affairs department, the ceremony felicitated local spiritual leaders and community elders, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to preserving traditional values.
Inaugurating the event, Higher Education minister Kishor Barman emphasized the significance of Guru Purnima in upholding India’s cultural legacy. He noted that while previous administrations had overlooked such traditions, the current government has been organizing annual Guru Purnima celebrations since 2018, reflecting its respect and care for the nation’s heritage.
During the ceremony, five gurus and four tribal community leaders were felicitated for their contributions to society. The event was attended by Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Supriya Das Datta, Nalchhar Panchayat Samiti Vice Chairperson Rina Debnath and social workers Uttam Das and Lokajit Debnath.
Addressing the gathering, Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Das Datta highlighted the enduring importance of guru-shishya traditions in shaping ethical and spiritual values across generations.
