Agartala, 23rd August 2026 : With the aim of improving healthcare services across Tripura and ensuring advanced medical facilities reach people at the rural level, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte on Saturday inspected the Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital and reviewed its infrastructure and functioning.
During the visit, Gitte toured various wards and assessed the existing healthcare facilities. He was accompanied by Director of Health Services Dr Debashree Debbarma, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Gomati Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamal Reang and other senior officials.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, the Health Secretary said the infrastructure of Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital had improved significantly over the past few years. While diagnostic samples were earlier sent to outside agencies, most tests are now being conducted within the hospital itself.
The hospital currently provides facilities including digital X-ray, ultrasonography, ECG, an upgraded operation theatre and modern maternal and child healthcare services. Machines required for thyroid and CBC tests are also expected to become operational soon.
Gitte said the hospital currently has seven doctors. He assured that the local administration’s request for a full-time anaesthesiologist, medicine specialist, orthopaedic specialist and additional junior doctors would be placed before Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha at the earliest.
The hospital caters to around 150 outpatients on an average every day, while approximately 30 to 40 patients are referred to Udaipur or the district hospital every month. The Health Secretary said the department’s objective is to bring the referral rate down to zero by strengthening specialist services and infrastructure so that people in remote areas can receive quality treatment closer to home.
The hospital’s operation theatre is already functional. Gitte appealed to local clubs, social organisations and residents to organise regular voluntary blood donation camps, stressing that adequate blood stocks are essential for uninterrupted surgeries and emergency medical services.
Work is also progressing rapidly to introduce digital and paperless healthcare services at Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital on the lines of Agartala Civil Hospital. The Integrated Health Management System and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) have been introduced to make healthcare delivery faster, easier and fully digital. In the future, prescriptions, X-ray and USG reports, other diagnostic reports and discharge certificates will be sent directly to patients through WhatsApp or email, helping save both time and money.
Following the Health Secretary’s inspection, Director of Health Services Dr Debashree Debbarma held a review meeting at the hospital. The meeting was attended by Gomati CMO Dr Kamal Reang, Udaipur Sub-Divisional Medical Officer Dr Biswajit Debnath, doctors and programme managers.
Dr Debbarma said all possible steps would be taken to further improve healthcare services at Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital in accordance with the directions and suggestions given by the Health Secretary.
She also said water connections to the newly constructed residential quarters for doctors and health workers would be completed soon and the quarters would be handed over for immediate use.
At the end of the visit, Health Secretary Gitte appreciated the dedication of doctors and health workers who continue to provide medical services even on holidays
