Agartala, 30th April 2026: In a significant development, the High Court has ruled in favor of 10 Anganwadi workers and helpers who were removed from service by the state government.
According to the case details, the Social Welfare and Social Education Department stopped the honorarium of these workers from November 2022 and informed them that their services were no longer required. Aggrieved by the decision, the affected workers approached the High Court’s Single Bench seeking justice.
Senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman, representing the Anganwadi workers, stated that in September 2024, the Single Bench directed the department to pay 50% of the pending honorarium and to consider their reinstatement.
Challenging this order, the state government filed an appeal before the Division Bench. Meanwhile, the Anganwadi workers also filed a cross-appeal demanding full (100%) payment of their pending dues and reinstatement.
On Wednesday, the Division Bench dismissed the state government’s appeal and delivered a clear verdict in favor of the workers. The court directed the government to reinstate the Anganwadi workers and helpers within 4 weeks and clear 100% of their pending honorarium from December 2022 within 8 months
Advocate Purushottam Roy Barman further warned that failure to comply with the court’s order would result in contempt of court proceedings against the state government.
