Agartala, July 19, 2023: A shocking incident of domestic violence has been reported where a woman was brutally assaulted and left abandoned on the road by her husband and three brothers-in-law. The incident came to light on Wednesday when local residents of Bishalgarh witnessed the victim being rescued by the police and taken to the Bishalgarh sub-divisional hospital for medical attention. The accused, the woman’s husband, and his two brothers are serving in the state and central armed forces. All three have been arrested by the police.

Reportedly, it has been revealed by a witness from Bishalgarh. The victim, Tanjina Aktar, had married Mustafa Ali from Gopinagar in Bishalgarh three years back. However, after the marriage, Tanjina was subjected to continuous abuse and mistreatment by her husband. The situation worsened when she attempted to return to her parental home from her in-laws’ house. The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Gopinagar Police Station.

An attempt was made to resolve the issue through a village meeting, but the domestic abuse did not stop. Eventually, Tanjina sought refuge at her father’s house. However, the situation escalated further when she reportedly got married again with the help of her brother-in-law. Upon learning of this second marriage, her husband and his two brothers allegedly assaulted Tanjina and left her on the road.

Local residents immediately rushed to Tanjina’s aid and contacted the authorities. The police personnel reached the scene and tried to apprehend the accused, but they resisted and allegedly attacked the police. The woman was safely rescued and taken to the Bishalgarh Hospital for medical examination.

The three accused, Mustafa Ali, Jakir Hossen, and Momin Mina, who serve in the army, were arrested by the Bishalgarh Women’s police and brought to the police station for further investigation. The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.

Domestic violence remains a deeply concerning issue in society, and such incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger measures to prevent such crimes. The victim’s ordeal and the subsequent arrests serve as a reminder of the grim reality faced by many women and the importance of raising awareness about gender-based violence and ensuring appropriate action against the perpetrators.
